All About Stephen

Hi, my name is Stephen Shriner. I graduated from Middletown High School (Class of 2008) located in Middletown, Maryland.

I've participated on the varsity baseball team for Middletown High School as Short, Center and Pitcher. The Head Coach for the Middletown Varsity Baseball team is Andy Baker.

I've been playing baseball since I was 4 years old. I have played on numerous leagues throughout the City of Frederick (Monocacy, East Frederick, National, Frederick Babe Ruth , Frederick American Legion FSK , MVAA League & Frederick Hustlers ), and now I'm playing for the Frederick Flying Dogs (semi-pro ) baseball league.

My favorite positions to play are Short and Center Field. But, I also play many other positions when needed (1st base, 3rd, pitcher and right field) for the team.

My coaches tell me that I will go far as long as I continue training and keep the love of the game in my heart. I have a work-hard-play-hard mentality and do my very best for myself and my team.

In the Fall of 2009; I will be attending Hagertown Community College for my 2nd year studing Physcial Education. This will be a very exciting time in my life to begin my career in Physical Education. In the Fall of 2010, I hope to transfer to a 4 yrs college where I can begin playing college baseball.

I hope you enjoyed my website and if you have questions please contact me at webgem94@comcast.net.

Thank you,
Stephen Shriner #6

2008 Frederick Flying Dogs

About the Frederick "Flying Dogs" - 2008 Mid-Maryland Semi-Pro Baseball Team

The Frederick Flying Dogs are an adult amateur baseball team composed of former professional, college and high school players. We have competed in the Mid-Maryland Semi-Pro Baseball League for the past 7 seasons. The team was established in 1999 as the Westminster Cardinals, an expansion team in the then Carroll County Unlimited Baseball League. The team was built from the excessive number of players interested in playing in the league after the existing teams had full rosters.

In 2002 the team made Frederick their home, with that and some other changes the league changed their name to the Mid-Maryland Semi-Pro Baseball League to reflect the expanding of their boundaries outside of just Carroll County and the level of play. It was after their move to Frederick that the team started to establish their solid core of players that make them a force to recon with in the MMSPBL.

In 2004 the Cardinals made their first run at a league championship by defeating the Mt. Airy Patriots and the regular season champion SPC Mets in the first and semi-final rounds of the playoffs. The team would eventually fall in the final round to the defending champion Westminster Falcons.

In 2006 the Flying Dogs were born. With their anticipated aquisition of the Frederick Brewing Company, the Flying Dog Brewery found a partner in the team formerly know as the Cardinals. The team went on to finish 19-8 in the regular season, including a 13 game win streak to end the season and lock up 2nd place in the MMSPBL. The Dogs chased the Cobras and Patriots in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs before falling victim to the Westminster Falcons 3 games to 1 in the Championship Finals, a rematch of the 2004 League Championship Series. The 2nd place finish gave the Flying Dogs the leagues 2nd NABF Regional berth in Youngstown, OH where the Flying Dogs defeated the Crestwood Steamers in a tough game one before falling to Saint Johns Lambos and Canton Pizza Oven. The teams overall record in 2006 was 26-19.

In 2008 the Flying Dogs brought home their first league championship, defeating the 6 time league champion Westminster Falcons in 5 games. The Dogs lost the first 2 games of the 5 games series before storming back to win the final 3. The Dogs went on to the NABF Regional Tournament in Salisbury, MD where they dropped 3 games, two by 1 run in extra innings. The Dogs also made their first appearance in the Maryland Semi-Pro Baseball State Tournament where they finished runner up to the Assault from the Susquehanna League.
